The Singing Girls of Texas :||: the Academy of Fine Arts, Ft. Worth

The Singing Girls of Texas was founded in January 2001 when a new charter school, Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts, was formed by The Texas Boys Choir. When the school opened, there were approximately 35 students. During the past 6 years, the school has grown to over 350 students serving grades 3-12. There are programs for choir, dance, theater, art, instrumental, and all of the required academic classes set by Texas Education Agency. The school continues to grow and each division is expanding and setting new standards every year.

The Singing Girls of Texas consists of girls who have spent two years in the SGT training choir and then are accepted into the touring choir on the basis of audition. They are bursting onto the choral scene in Texas and across the United States with their outstanding vocal blend, variety of repertoire, passion for music, and excellent presentation. In the fall of 2003, Mark L. Stamper became their Artistic Director. The Singing Girls of Texas is striving to perform as a nationally recognized professional girls' choir, and to train young musicians to become among the best in the world.

The choir has taken three national tours throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi. This coming year, an international tour is planned that will take the girls through Italy and Austria.

During the past 3 years, the choir has released two recordings: "When I Sing" (2004) and "Voices of America" (2005).

The Singing Girls of Texas is committed to bringing fresh, new, and innovative literature to their audiences. The girls combine vocal excellence, charisma, and movement to create a concert that will inspire their audiences. The Singing Girls of Texas are proudly associated with The Texas Boys Choir, their brother chorus and the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts where all these students receive excellent training in the arts.

"Having been a church organist for 26 years, I have served numerous churches and been beyond fortunate to have concertized with many of the great musicians of our time. The Singing Girls of Texas is beyond peer in its age group and could certainly hold its own with any university chorus. There are only a small percentage of semi-professional and professional choirs which enjoy a sound that is as soaring, rhythmically vibrant, fresh and precise as that of the Singing Girls of Texas.
